We live and sail in the vicinity of San Juan Islands, Washington at the door-step of Puget Sound, to the South and Georgia Strait to the North. I mention this so that you will know that we have every kind of weather, wave, and wind combinations there is. We have sailed across the Strait of Juan de Fuca in 30 knot winds and Georgia Strait in 25+. The boat is fabulously stable. Once you get on course and trimmed in, you go where you are pointed. I have had 9 knots under me quite a few times and you need 15 kts of wind to make it really fun! Of course my wife likes it a little less exuberant. The one drawback to the Rasmus is the main sail haul located at the mast position, which complicated reefing, and even sail hoist/douse, although I have had lazy-jacks installed and they certainly help. Summation: a very stable boat that tracks well, and rides well even in heavy swells...at the base, you feel safe in a Rasmus.
Thanks ffronk for the description. Maybe one day I can get up to your area and find out for myself. Could also enjoy the cooler weather since it is 106 here in Little Rock right now.
