New engine in 'Michaela, Rasmus # 330

I just tore out the old Volvo MD2003 from my Rasmus # 330, Michaela.  Here's the new engine - a Volvo/Perkins D1-30.  It's a vast improvement!  The new prop is a Campbell Sailor 3-blade.

How is the exhaust hose set up? Does it route straight back along the shaft or does it go thru one of the lockers port or starboard? Very nice looking engine by the way.

The exhaust hose goed under the floor of the locker in the aft cabin then straight back.

A bit of history:

Original MD-21 replaced about 1995 with a Volvo Penta MD2003, PRM Delta 30 hydraulic transmission. 2003 is a four letter word.....When the MD2003 was installed in 1995 I put in an Aquadrive CV joint coupling. Replaced again late 2011 with the volve Penta D1-30F, and the Volvo MS10A transmission. It was a drop-in - took about 7 hours to hookup start to finish. The beds were re-done before the MD2003. Present setup is as smooth as silk --- no vibration at all - 6 kts @ 2000rpm, will rev to 3100. When I mat it you can see the bow lift..

The MD2003 had 2 alternators, the D1-30 has a 115Amp one..

Dave,
I got the new Vetus LSS water lock in the mail and tried to fit in the same location as yours. My engine kept me from doing that but the muffler will fit under the aft cabin closet. So I put a shelf just above the shaft under the closet to set the muffler there. Then I can have a straight run out the back. What do you think?
Thanks for your posts. I think it got me going in the right direction.
Cheers
Pat

Just installed the d1-30 on my Malo 34. After just 15 months and 86 hours, the clutch has worn out, resulting in slow engagement of gear.

Now Volvo do not want to own up, that there is a faulty part in the clutch assy.

They should carry out a recall. But they prefer that we pay for the repairs.

Lift up your game Volvo.
